Covenant University Scales New Heights in Webometrics Ranking


The quality of academic engagement and delivery in Covenant University has seen the University leapfrog many first-generation universities in the country and the continent as validated by the latest edition of Ranking Web of Universities also known as Webometrics Ranking, released on July 31, 2014 by the Cybermetrics Lab.
Result of the current ranking saw Covenant University move up to 25th in the African Continent from the 102nd position it occupied in the January 2014 edition of the ranking. In Nigeria, the University came 2nd position from the earlier ranking of 10th, while still maintaining her position as the best private university in the country.

A look at the various parameters in the ranking shows that the University came tops over other universities in Nigeria in almost all factors under consideration. Covenant University did well in terms of Web Presence, Impact, Openness and Excellence Rankings.

Similarly, in the just released Ranking of Web of Repositories, Covenant University emerged 1st in the country and occupied the 12th position in the continent and 402nd in the world out of 1,983 registered institutions in the Ranking of Web of Repositories.

Speaking on the feat, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Ayo, said, “The current ranking is a validation of our right steps in the right direction, as the University is poised to become one of the top ten universities in the world.”

According to him, “By the next ranking, the University is expected to capture Nigeria and Africa in general.”

Ranking of Web of Repositories is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body and one of the foremost basic research organizations in the world.
