LAGOSIANS AND FOREIGN TOURISTS GOT THRILLED AT THE LAGOS CARNIVAL 2014

For the fifth consecutive time in five years, Lagosians and foreign tourists gathered on Easter Monday 21st of April 2014 to celebrate the Lagos carnival 2014. As it has now become the tradition of Lagos to hold The Lagos carnival on Easter Monday of every year, the streets of Lagos wore a festive look, there were billboards, buses, effigies ,and even a water display all heralding the event. There were giant figures dancing on water right from the Cowries Bridge linking Marina to Victoria Island! No doubt the event was well prepared for.
It was a day full of fun as audience got thrilled with colours and glamour. The event kicked off with a parade which started at Awolowo Road Ikoyi and ended at the Tafawa Balewa Square Lagos.  
Lagosians and tourists from all walks of life watched the excitement as the different groups and floats representing different areas and groups participated in a colourful carnival procession amidst cheers and applause
Special guest of honour at the occasion were the state governor, Mr.Babatunde Raji Fashola and the Minister of Tourism, Mr.Edem Duke
The governor of Lagos State addressed over 60,000 people who gathered at the Tafawa Balewa Square. In his speech,he said “This is the end of a whole week of fun from the regatta to the carnival. This is the real spirit of Lagos. Little -by –little we have built our own carnival and it has grown from strength to strength.” The governor urges residents to remain peaceful and vigilant. He explained that there is need to be peaceful and to respect each other’s choice. He argued that Lagos Carnival can only take place if the state is peaceful. Speaking further, he expressed his pleasure to be at the 2014 Lagos Carnival tagged “LASGIDI”. He expressed that the carnival represents the real spirit of Lagos which is a spirit of prosperity after prosperity.
