GUILTY CONSCIENCE
Adeolu Adesanya
One minute you're laughing, the next you're crying
The crease of your smile turning downward to a frowning
You reveal your realness as my face is turn
Faking that smile and stifling that sob.
You got it on, your concealing mask
To shield me from seeing, from knowing
But no matter how hard you try, you can't
A star can't hide away from the moon.
I can see the truth and it's pains in your eyes,
I can hear the crack and it's quivers in your voice
I can feel the murmur as it bleeds in your heart
I am your true soul, your conscience.
Let go of the floodgate, let it cleanse
Purge away at the lies and it's shame
Soon, twinkle shall be seen from your eyes again
And no guilt can muffle the laughter in your soul.
