Dear Plastic Fans,
As you all know, Nigeria will kick off their campaign at the 2014 world cup today against Iran. The rest of us know you'll not be supporting us.
I have seen Mlawians, South Africans and Zimbabweans supporting the Super Eagles, some since as far back as 1998 till today and despite their lacklustre performances, those guys are still blowing vuvuzelas for our team in the World Cup.
The plastic fans say they're being realists- isn't that the excuse Nigerians always give for not supporting their own? Do they think the rest of us like tbaba and naija noni don't see the team's flaws? The Black Stars are up against stiffer opposition than we are, but Ghanaians have not thrown in the towel despite the odds stacked against them. THAT is a true fan.
All I ask of you guys today is not to watch our match. I beg you, we don't need any bad belle people bringing us any bad luck. Just support whatever team you have chosen to jump to. Don't come and disturb us the true fans on our thread with your prophecies of doom. We already have Iranians, Bosnians and the Argentines wishing us bad luck, we don't need purported Nigerians doing the same.
Lastly, we know we're not Holland, we know we don't have World Cup material players in our team like Ike Uche, Obasi and Imoh Ezekiel. We know we don't have set-piece takers and game changers. We know our team has no engine, like the Messi of argentina, CR7 of Portugal or Pirlo of Italy. We know our coach doesn't have the tactical know-how like Van Gaal or Capello.
But even with all of that, we're content with supporting them, Yobo, Babatunde and all the flaws. We will scream Uchebo's name just as loud as we would've screamed Mba's and we will curse them out when they lose a ball like we always do. We will call Musa aboki when he shoots wide and of course ask Keshi to field different players as if we have telepathic powers and we will scream and celebrate them until their time in Brazil comes to an end.
Yours Sincerely,
A True Super Eagles Fan
