Covenant University to Host Two Noble Laureates in May 2014

Covenant University ,Ota Nigeria will host 2007 and 2011 world known Nobel Prize winners in Economics Science. Professor Thomas Sargent,New York University,Nobel Laureate in Economics (2011) and Professor Eric S. Maskin,Harvard University,Nobel Laureate in Economics (2007)  on 5th – 6th of May  2014 at her first ever  International African Development Issues  (CU-ICADI).
Theme: “Rising Economic Opportunities for Investors in Africa and the Prospect of an African Economic Miracle”
Venue: African Leadership Development Centre (ALDC). Covenant University,  Ota, Ogun State.

The conference would focus on vectors conducive to economic growth, and alleviation of poverty. It has been observed over the last decade that poor economic indicators of famine, extreme poverty, wars, and low growth rates amongst others that characterized the post-independence era of many nations in Africa are being reversed. The continent is witnessing the fastest growth rate in the world reaching 7 percent per annum in some cases as against 1 percent in the previous decade. This growth trend has raised high hopes as to the possibility of Africa experiencing a sustainable growth impetus
 The specific sub-themes to be addressed at the conference include:
(a) Key Drivers of Growth for Africa’s Economic Transformation;
(b) Inclusive Growth for a Resilient Middle Class in Africa;
(c) Economic and Institutional Reforms for Sustainable Growth in Africa; and
(d) Governance and Economic Transformation in Africa.

Confrimed panelist in this two-day conference include: Prof.Jonathan Leape (London School of Economics);Dr.Sarah Alade (Acting Governor of CNB); Dr Kalu Idika Kalu  (Fomer Minister of Finance),Dr.B. Okogu (Director-General,Budget Office Abuja); Mr.A.I Aig-Imoukhuede (former G.M.D/CEO,Access Bank Plc Nigeria); Prof.John Ifediora (University of Wisconsin-platteville,U.S.A); Prof.K Adeyemi (Covenant University,Ota), Prof.Olu.Ajakaiye (African Centre for Shared Dev.Capacity Building). 


Conference participation fee is N250,000 for participants resident in Nigeria, and US$1,500 for international participants.  This fee covers conference kits, tea breaks and group lunch for the conference duration as well as dinner at the end of the conference.  The fee excludes accommodation charges.  The Covenant University Guest House and other decent hotels around the Conference venue are being booked for this event.  Interested participants should indicate intentions as early as possible.
For ease of access to Covenant University,transportation services from the Airport to and from the Conference venue by bus and helicopter services are being arranged at moderate charges for interested participants.
