There is need to
brainstorm on the challenges, conflicts and contradiction in the country’s
leadership, this was disclosed at the African Leadership Development Centre
(ALDC) first ever Specialized Workshop Series. Themed: “CONFLICT
MANAGEMENT AND RESOLUTION” The 4-Day workshop held on the 25-28 May 2014 at ALDC,
Covenant University Canaan Land, Ota, Nigeria.
The workshop commenced with an opening ceremony in which the
Keynote Address was delivered by the Chancellor, Covenant University, Dr. David
O. Oyedepo. The focus of Keynote Address was on Leadership Imperatives: Conflict Resolution and Conflict Management
Demands for Inspiring Transformation and Driving Change.
In her welcome
address, the Director of the Centre, Professor Aize Obayan pointed out the need
to brainstorm on the challenges, conflicts and contradiction in the country’s
leadership. She disclosed that the workshop is timely especially with the issue
of the over 200 missing secondary school students.
In
attendance at the event were the, The Olota of Ota, His Royal Majesty, Oba
Alani Oyede, Ado/Odo Ota Local Government Chairman; Honourable Rotimi Rahmon, representative
of the NUC; Dr.Sanni Saliu, Dr Kalu Idika Kalu, Professor Peter Okebukola, Prof.
Kunle Amuwo, Dr.Gloria Elemo, Dr Shola Afolabi, members of Covenant University
Board of Regents, Pro-Chancellor, Covenant University Pastor Abraham Ojeme, Vice
Chancellor Covenant University Prof. C K Ayo, Mr. Tim Akano among others.
The
participants at the workshop participated in the capacity building sessions which
were a creative platform for sustainable peace, harmonious socio-political and
economic development and process. They were privileged to hear from the different
distinguished lead speakers, the likes of
His Excellency, Mr. Patrick Fay; Ambassador of Ireland to Nigeria, Chief Dr.
Lugard Aimiuwu, OON; Former President
& Chairman of Council, Nigeria Institute of Management and Former President
& Chairman of Council, National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, Prof.
Cecil Blake; University of Pittsburgh, USA and Former Minister of Information, Republic
of Sierra Leone, Dr. Andrew Zamani, President Nigeria Psychological Association
who painstakingly put them through the causes, management and resolution to
conflict and also offer an opportunity to
collectively envision pathways for building the Africa of our dreams
The workshop came to an end on the 28th of May
2014 with a wrap up ceremony and a lunch/network time at the Covenant University
Cafeteria.
